Chandrashekhar was appointed as President of National Association of Software
and Service Companies (NASSCOM) on 4 January 2014.
R. Chandrasekhar succeeded Som Mittal whose tenure with the
NASSCOM ended on 3 January 2014. He was at the helm of NASSCOM for six long
years. After taking over as the President of NASSCOM his immediate challenge
would be to achieve NASSCOM’s ambitious target of 300 billion dollar of
revenue by 2020 from the IT sector.
He had previously worked as the chairman of telecom commission and
secretary of the department of telecom till March 2013.
Chandrasekhar
established the first department of Information Technology in the country in
Andhra Pradesh and was secretary of the department from June 1997 to December
1999. Besides, drafting National Telecom Policy 2012, he played a key role in
the drafting the first National IT Policy and National Policy on Electronics during his dual role of IT and Telecom
Secretary with the Union Government.
